Inspired by sweet dreams and long naps, this simple DIY chalkboard border can be done in an afternoon. Grab your paint brush, some painter’s tape, and a quart of Colorhouse WOOL .05 Chalkboard paint and let’s get started!
First, use a level to create a straight line for the top of your chalkboard border. In this project, we went 5′ up the wall. We made our border 12″ wide, so drew another line at the 4′ mark. We like the thickness of this stripe as it leaves plenty of room for puffy sheep and lots of numbers. For a step-by-step on how to make sharp lines on your border, check out MAKE THIS: The Perfect Stripe.
Have fun rolling, rolling, rolling in between your tape lines. Let the chalkboard paint dry to the touch and then recoat within 2 hrs. Wait 24 hrs to condition your chalkboard border by scribbling with a piece of chalk and then dry erase. Embrace your inner artist and get your chalk ready! We made our sheep design simple by drawing a basic cloud shape for the body and then added little legs and a cute sheep face.
As your little one gets older, you can say bye-bye to the sheep and write lines from favorite nursery rhymes, poems, and books. That’s the fun part about Colorhouse chalkboard paint– you can erase it and start over with new inspiration!
