Meet Hayley, Oakley, and Safi. Their home in NE Portland is a happy canvas of color and story, woven together by collected items from worldwide travels. Join us on this eclectic and energetic house tour as Hayley’s home showcases some of our brightest hues! Wall color featured: THRIVE .06.
A colorful corner in Hayley and Oakley’s kitchen leads to the quiet living room painted in IMAGINE .04. “I love that the color of our kitchen is the opposite of serene. Life is messy and colorful and spicy and that’s where the dance parties and big talks always seem to happen.” Kitchen wall color featured: PETAL .06.
Fiery red PETAL .06 makes Hayley and Oakley’s kitchen pop! This color sets off her collection of handmade ceramics and makes cooking surrounded by color just a bit more fun.
Hayley and Oakley’s living room layers furniture finds from Indonesia, Marrakesh, and India. Surrounded by the warm white backdrop of IMAGINE .04, tea-sipping and story-telling take place in this light and open space.
As soft and bright as a summer sky, blue DREAM .02 picks up where this globe-patterned wallpaper leaves off — the perfect transition from colorful + vibrant to calm + cheerful.
Safi wears matching butterfly wings as she creates her own masterpiece similar to the monarch wing mural painted by her mom Hayley using an array of Colorhouse oranges: CLAY .02, PETAL .01, and CREATE .01.
Vibrant green THRIVE .06 sets this dining room scene with a table made from a fishing boat that once sailed the Andaman Sea, sombreros and Tibetan wedding hats that hang within arms reach of dinner plates, and travel photos that grace the bright green walls.
Not just another chalkboard wall! Look behind Hayley’s grandmother’s drafting table to find the genie bottle that is producing the chalkboard smoke bubble in her office. Chalkboard paint color: NOURISH .06.
Hayley’s passion for natural dyeing is apparent in their bedroom, where hand-dipped curtains fade into an indigo ombre. Warm white IMAGINE .04 walls and a rich mix of blues on the ceiling create a peaceful oasis.
Turmeric-dyed sheets add a jolt of earthy yellow to this peaceful bedroom scene. The night sky mural that uses a mixture of Colorhouse blues is a reminder to put down the phone and “Look Up!” at the stars. Wall color: IMAGINE .04
From homeowner Hayley on painting the mural in her daughter’s room: “The Colorhouse mission — making the world more colorful and less volatile — is my life mission! I wanted a clean product with gorgeous colors. I painted my first mural when my daughter was a toddler, so needed paint that blended well and didn’t smell. I got hooked and haven’t really stopped painting since.” Mural inspiration: Kid’s book PANORAMA by Fani Marceau and Joëlle Jolivet. Colors used: SPROUT .01, DREAM .05, PETAL .05, THRIVE .06.
Safi’s reading nook is painted in spring-y robin’s egg blue SPROUT .01. A vintage velvet chair, cherry blossom branch, and Safi’s favorite books make this a special corner.
Thanks for joining us on this house tour! Some design words of wisdom from homeowner Hayley to use in your own Colorhouse:
“I’m a big believer in living life in full color, with all senses awake. I like to design and interact with landscapes – finding beauty, finding stories, weaving together people, plant and place. And I believe in flying your color flag high. Dress like you feel. Write your family’s story on your wall. Create spaces that feel great to come home to, that change a little with the seasons, and that salute the people and places you love. And if it doesn’t feel quite right, get the paint out again and try something new. Or ask for feedback from a seven year-old, who will have a very strong design opinion.”
